AFRICAN LIBRARIES PROJECT

African Libraries Project provided 30,000 books for AYISE to distribute

The project addresses the following core issues:

  • Education - by boosting the resources of Malawian schools, which are on limited budgets, and by motivating children to read

AYISE were selected by the African Libraries Project to act as a receiving organisation for deliveries of books. They chose AYISE as a result of our close links to the communities, and our proven track record of honesty and reliability. Books were delivered to AYISE, who would then identify appropriate organisations to be the final recipients of the resource. Schools and other organisations would request that they be recipients, and AYISE was given the responsibility to ensure that they were appropriately responsible, would provide an effective and accessible service to their community, and had the necessary infrastructure in place (such as shelving). AYISE’s responsibilities covered areas we were working in and had close ties with, specifically the Blantyre and Mangochi districts.
