AYISE’s Livelihood Security Programme not only targets the youth but also the poorest of the poor households. This is because poverty of households, which is poverty of parents, translates into the poverty of the children living in that home.
Our current programmes have provided livelihood opportunities to women-headed households where the women are custodians of orphans, child-headed households, poor men and poor youth. The livelihood opportunities have included:
- provision of goats and pigs for rearing (a set of siblings are given back to the programme)
- provision of farming inputs such as fertilisers and maize seeds (with some of the profit, inputs are returned to the programme)
- vocational skills training covering welding, carpentry, tailoring and tinsmiths and provision of tool kits to groups of young people
- provision of micro-credit with non-commercial interest rates to some poor households
- Youth Agricultural Clubs
- Vocational Skills Training Centre
